Description
WW2 Occupation Era US 5th Air Force / 5th Army Aviation Staff Sergeant Ike Jacket – Size 36S (1947 Dated, Jules Segal & Co.) This original postwar Ike jacket is a sharp example of a World War II Occupation-era uniform, constructed of 100% wool and dated May 29, 1947. Produced by Jules Segal & Co., the jacket retains its wartime M1944 pattern and features classic construction details, including a four-ribbon bar and full set of insignia for a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Forces. Of particular note are the dual theater shoulder patches—5th Air Force on the right shoulder and 5th Army on the left—highlighting a soldier with significant service history across multiple commands. The 5th Air Force was one of the most active American air commands in the Pacific, playing a crucial role in campaigns across New Guinea, the Philippines, and ultimately over Japan. Its aircraft—fighters, bombers, and tactical squadrons—pounded enemy positions in support of General MacArthur’s advance. The inclusion of the 5th Army patch, best known for its role in the Italian campaign, suggests stateside reassignment or postwar duty in the Mediterranean or Southern Europe during the occupation period. The lapel features correct brass insignia for U.S. Army Air Forces personnel, while the ribbon bar includes the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal with star, the Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal—further confirming combat service in the Pacific Theater. The jacket remains in excellent condition, with strong color and minimal wear. The wool is soft and pliable, and all patches are period-applied. Interior markings remain clear, and the manufacturer's tag is fully legible. Size is marked 36S. This is a well-preserved and historically meaningful example that would display well or fit comfortably into any collection focused on the Pacific war or postwar occupation forces.
