Description
WW2 US 5th Army Corporal Ike Jacket, Size 36L, Named/Numbered – W.B. Bohn This original World War II US Army Ike jacket is a named and service-numbered piece identified to Corporal W.B. Bohn (serial number 46011598). Constructed of wool serge in very good condition, the jacket retains its original corporal chevrons on both sleeves and a finely hand-sewn theater-made gold bullion overseas service bar denoting six months of service in a combat zone. The right shoulder features a crisply hand-applied 5th Army shoulder sleeve insignia, signifying service under one of the most important American commands in the European Theater. The jacket is size marked 36L and remains solid throughout, showing signs of honest wear but no significant damage. The interior lining is clean, with clear inked markings of the veteran’s name and service number. All original buttons are present, and the adjustment tabs remain functional. This is a well-preserved and unaltered example ideal for both historical display and collection. The US Fifth Army, activated in 1943 under General Mark W. Clark, was the first American field army to fight on the European mainland during WW2. It led the Allied invasion of mainland Italy, landing at Salerno in September 1943. From there, the 5th Army spearheaded operations through the harsh mountainous terrain of central Italy, engaging in brutal fighting at Monte Cassino and breaking through the Gustav and Gothic Lines in the face of determined German resistance. The Fifth Army’s campaigns were pivotal in drawing Axis forces away from Northern France and contributed significantly to the eventual Allied victory in Europe. Uniforms tied to 5th Army combat veterans are increasingly scarce, especially those with named provenance and original insignia intact. This jacket stands as a tangible link to the Italian campaign—one of the war’s hardest-fought and often overlooked fronts.
