This is an original United States World War I Victory Medal complete with the "France" campaign clasp, awarded to American servicemembers who participated in operations on French soil between April 6, 1917, and November 11, 1918. Authorized in 1919, the medal was presented to all U.S. military personnel who served in the First World War, including those involved in subsequent expeditions in Russia and Siberia through 1920.

The obverse of the medal features a full-length depiction of Nike, the winged goddess of victory, holding a sword and shield—symbolizing both combat and protection. The reverse bears a shield and fasces, surrounded by the inscription: "THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION", flanked by the names of Allied nations including France, Italy, Serbia, Japan, Montenegro, Russia, Greece, Great Britain, Belgium, Brazil, Portugal, Rumania, and China.

The attached "FRANCE" bronze clasp was issued to denote service in the major combat sectors of the Western Front. The medal is suspended from its original rainbow-colored silk ribbon, representing a shared international effort and peace after the conflict.
