Description
This original postwar U.S. Army "Ike" jacket is a size 36R example dated June 27, 1946, manufactured by the Superior Coat Company. It features the distinctive four-leaf clover insignia of the 4th Infantry Division, sewn to the left shoulder, along with a three-place ribbon bar representing the Army Good Conduct Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze campaign stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. These awards reflect extended combat service in the European Theater, likely across five major campaigns. The 4th Infantry Division—known as the "Ivy Division"—played a central role in some of the most significant operations of the war. The division landed at Utah Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and advanced through the Normandy hedgerows into northern France. It was among the first units to enter Paris during the liberation, and later took part in the brutal Hürtgen Forest campaign, the Battle of the Bulge, and the final push into Germany. The five campaign stars on the EAME ribbon denote participation in five named campaigns, highlighting the breadth of the veteran’s combat service. This jacket, although produced in the early Occupation period, retains all original insignia and offers a poignant artifact of a soldier who saw continuous action from Normandy through VE Day. An excellent and authentic example of a decorated combat veteran's uniform from the famed 4th Infantry Division.
