Description

This is an original World War II era US Army Good Conduct Medal featuring a slot brooch suspension and two bronze loops (commonly referred to as “knots”) affixed to the ribbon, signifying three total awards of the medal. The medal was instituted by Executive Order 8809 on June 28, 1941, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and was awarded to enlisted personnel for exemplary behavior, efficiency, and fidelity during active federal military service.

During World War II, earning the Good Conduct Medal required three consecutive years of honorable service, or one year during wartime, without any disciplinary infractions. A soldier awarded it three times, as indicated by the two knots on this example, demonstrated a sustained level of professionalism and discipline across multiple terms of service—something especially commendable during the high operational tempo of global war.

The obverse of the medal features an American eagle and the words “Efficiency, Honor, Fidelity,” while the reverse reads “For Good Conduct.” The ribbon is a deep red with white edge stripes, and this example is suspended from an early slot brooch, characteristic of wartime issue.

Medals like this not only commemorate military service but reflect the daily diligence and moral integrity of those who served. It honors not battlefield valor, but the quieter heroism of duty fulfilled without fail—day in and day out. This piece is ideal for collectors of WWII militaria, US Army insignia, or decorations reflecting the human side of military service.
