WW2/Korean War Era US Army Officer’s Khaki “Combat Jacket” – 1st Lieutenant Insignia – Size Small – Made by Summers of Los Angeles This is an excellent example of a post-World War II U.S. Army officer’s khaki “Combat Jacket,” produced during the late WW2 to early Korean War transitional period. This tailored four-pocket jacket is constructed from Skinner’s Tackle Twill rayon-cotton blend and treated with “Long Life Cravenette,” as noted on the printed interior label. It was manufactured by the firm of Summers, Los Angeles—a known wartime contractor for officer garments in the Pacific Theater. This short-waisted, belted “Ike-style” combat jacket features sewn-in first lieutenant rank bars (silver embroidered) on each shoulder strap, indicating it was issued to a junior officer. The size is marked “S” for Small. Both the belt and internal lining remain intact and in excellent condition, and all original buttons are present. The jacket shows no evidence of added insignia on the sleeves or chest, suggesting it may have been used in garrison or stateside rather than a combat zone. The khaki combat jacket saw limited combat use in Europe due to the dominance of OD wool field uniforms but became a common sight in postwar and occupation forces, especially in warmer climates such as Japan, the Philippines, and Korea. It was worn by officers of all branches, typically in Class A or duty dress settings. While the jacket’s pattern echoes the standard M1944 “Ike jacket” design, this khaki variant reflects the U.S. Army’s continued evolution of officer dress in the late 1940s. This piece would be ideal for a Korean War or Occupation Forces officer impression and is a fine example of late WW2/early Cold War U.S. Army officer tailoring.
