This is an original postwar Yugoslav Navy Submariner's Badge, awarded to sailors who qualified as submarine crew members during the era of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY). This finely crafted badge is constructed of aluminum and features a detailed depiction of a surfaced submarine in silver-tone relief, cutting across blue enameled waves symbolizing the Adriatic Sea. The lower portion includes a silver anchor—a longstanding maritime emblem—while the wreath surrounding the design reflects Soviet-style military iconography. A red enamel five-pointed star, the symbol of communism and Yugoslav state authority, crowns the badge.

The reverse is marked with a serial number, in this case “3385,” and features a brass screwback plate bearing the stamp of "IKOM ZAGREB," the state-run mint and badge manufacturer based in Croatia. The numbered examples such as this one are typically earlier production badges issued during the 1950s–1960s.

The Yugoslav Navy (Jugoslavenska Ratna Mornarica or JRM) played a significant role in regional Cold War maritime strategy. Despite its non-aligned status, Yugoslavia maintained a robust and technically competent submarine fleet, consisting primarily of domestically built Heroj-class and later Sava-class diesel-electric submarines.
