WW2 US Army Winter Mountain Troops Reversible Parka – M-1942 Ski Jacket

This is a wartime-issued M-1942 reversible ski parka, designed specifically for US Army mountain troops serving in extreme alpine conditions during World War II. Officially known as the “Parka, Reversible, Ski,” this garment was standard issue to elite units such as the 10th Mountain Division, who were trained for winter warfare in rugged terrain, including deployments in the Apennines of Italy during 1944–1945.

The jacket is made of a tightly woven cotton poplin shell, reversible from olive drab (OD) to a white side for snow camouflage. This dual-tone design allowed troops to remain concealed in both wooded and snowy environments. The parka features a full-length button front with integral hood, waist drawstring, and adjustable cuffs—providing wind resistance and insulation layering in harsh winter conditions.

This example retains its original buttons on both sides and shows clear signs of field wear, with prominent soiling and staining to the lower front panel and sleeve areas—particularly on the OD side, where the garment likely absorbed mud or hydraulic fluid in use. The interior white side also exhibits moderate staining, indicative of real field service and honest age.

Despite the wear, the jacket remains structurally sound and highly desirable. The reversible construction is intact, with the white camouflage side still affixed properly at all seams. The drawstring is present, and buttonholes remain serviceable. This is a textbook example of a combat-used M-1942 parka—one of the most iconic pieces of US military cold-weather gear of the Second World War.
