During the stalemate phase of the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, the division continued to engage in heavy fighting, particularly in defensive battles along the 38th Parallel. The unit fought in key battles such as Operation Commando and the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge, demonstrating its resilience in both offensive and defensive operations.

By the end of the war in 1953, the 1st Cavalry Division had earned a reputation as one of the US Army’s most effective combat divisions. It remained in Korea for a time as part of the armistice enforcement before eventually returning to the United States, where it later became one of the first divisions to convert to an air assault role during the Vietnam War.
