This authentic US Army Model 1881 Infantry Dress Helmet, manufactured by Ridabock & Co. of New York, showcases a striking gilt eagle front plate with a central shield marked “H”, indicating the Company H unit affiliation. The helmet features its original brass spike and is adorned with a chin chain secured by two gilt rosettes. Inside, the helmet retains its original leather liner and sweatband, with the maker’s label intact, reading “Ridabock & Co., formerly Baker & McKenney, 141 Grand St. New York.”

This post-Civil War era dress helmet represents the military regalia worn during ceremonial duties and parades by the US Army infantry regiments. The design of this helmet followed the transition from earlier Civil War models and reflects the ongoing evolution of US military uniforms during the late 19th century.
