Description
This World War II-era NSKK dagger was manufactured by Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie. (WKC) of Solingen, one of the premier blade makers of the Third Reich period. The dagger was the standard dress sidearm issued to members of the Nationalsozialistisches Kraftfahrkorps (NSKK), a paramilitary organization responsible for driver training, motor transport, and logistical support for the Nazi Party and, later, the Wehrmacht. Initially formed as a motorized branch of the SA (Sturmabteilung), the NSKK became a separate organization in 1934, retaining the early SA dagger pattern but marked by new inscriptions and scabbard finishes appropriate to the unit’s identity. This example follows the traditional Holbein-style dagger design first authorized for the SA in 1933. It features a nickel-plated crossguard and pommel, a contoured wooden grip fitted with a silver NSKK roundel and eagle inset, and a bright, factory-polished blade with the standard “Alles für Deutschland” motto etched in Gothic script. The ricasso bears the WKC maker’s mark, a Solingen-based firm known for producing high-grade edged weapons. The dagger is housed in a black-painted steel scabbard, consistent with NSKK specifications post-1936, replacing the earlier brown anodized SA-style scabbards. The attached Assmann-marked hanger—a period original—is a rare and desirable feature, allowing the dagger to be worn suspended from a leather belt clip, as was regulation during ceremonial and formal wear. The NSKK dagger served as a symbol of loyalty and membership rather than a combat implement. Issued to ranks across the organization, it was worn at parades, rallies, and official inspections, projecting the order, hierarchy, and ideological discipline of Nazi Germany’s paramilitary culture. This example, complete with its matching components and desirable maker-marked hanger, represents a well-preserved artifact from the NSKK’s operational and symbolic role within the Third Reich.
