German Boy Scout Youth Knife by PIC Solingen with Leather Scabbard

Description

This German Boy Scout youth knife was produced by PIC Solingen, a respected German cutlery manufacturer known for crafting high-quality blades for civilian and military use. Unlike the Hitler Youth knives, this model was designed for scouting and outdoor activities, making it a practical tool rather than a political symbol. The grip features a checkered black Bakelite handle with a well-preserved red fleur-de-lis emblem, a universal scouting insignia.

The blade retains its original shape, showing signs of use, including sharpening marks and surface wear. It is stamped with “PIC Solingen” on the ricasso, confirming its German origin. Additionally, the blade features a distinctive mountain logo, which was occasionally used by PIC on various edged weapons. The accompanying steel scabbard is painted black and exhibits paint loss, surface wear, and a noticeable dent on one side. A notable field repair includes black electrical tape wrapped around the upper portion of the scabbard to secure the worn leather retention strap. The leather belt loop and securing strap are intact but show signs of aging and use.

This knife dates to the 1930s to 1950s, a period when German scouting organizations and outdoor groups widely used such utility knives. It served as a versatile tool for camping, hiking, and general fieldwork. Its construction closely resembles other German youth knives of the era but was intended solely for civilian purposes. A historically significant piece, this German scouting knife is an excellent addition to collections focusing on vintage European cutlery, youth organization memorabilia, or early to mid-20th century German craftsmanship.
