The obverse of the coin features a right-facing bust of Valentinian wearing imperial regalia, with visible traces of Latin inscriptions that likely once read DN VALENTINIANVS PF AVG (Dominus Noster Valentinianus Pius Felix Augustus), meaning “Our Lord Valentinian, Dutiful and Blessed Augustus.” The reverse depicts a standing figure, likely a Roman soldier, holding a labarum and dragging a captive, a common motif of Roman strength and dominion, associated with the legend GLORIA ROMANORVM (“Glory of the Romans”). The coin is struck in bronze and exhibits a dark green patina consistent with centuries of burial and age. While worn, the imperial portrait is still discernible, and the reverse imagery retains much of its form.
