This is an original World War II-era US Navy khaki service coat for a Chief Signalman, complete with a beautiful hand-embroidered bullion rating badge. Manufactured by Weintraub Brothers & Co. of Philadelphia, the jacket is clearly marked on the original tailor’s tag and labeled a size 44 Regular. The coat features four sharply defined service hashmarks on the left sleeve, each representing four years of honorable service, indicating a minimum of 16 years served. The right sleeve bears a finely executed bullion Chief Petty Officer rating badge for a Signalman (crossed signal flags over a diamond), topped with an eagle rendered in gold wire with red detailing in the eye. These bullion badges were typically worn on dress and semi-dress khakis by senior NCOs, especially when off duty or on liberty. The use of gold bullion thread and blue velvet-backed insignia was more common among career sailors and CPOs during WW2, marking this coat as a tailored, privately purchased piece worn with pride. This coat remains in excellent condition, with bright, original Navy eagle gilt buttons intact and minimal signs of wear.
