Original Finnish lynx head unit insignia of the 5th Infantry Division (5. Divisioona), crafted in bronze with a screwback and correct wartime Finnish maker disk. This snarling lynx head design was proudly worn by members of the division and remains one of the more iconic and stylized Finnish divisional insignia from the Second World War. Light patina and honest wear are present, and the piece remains in excellent condition with no repairs or postwar alterations.

The 5th Infantry Division served in both the Winter War (1939–1940) and the Continuation War (1941–1944), where it fought with distinction against overwhelming Soviet forces. During the Winter War, the division was part of II Corps, defending the critical Karelian Isthmus near Summa and Muolaa. There, it endured constant artillery bombardments and infantry assaults, managing to hold its lines against vastly superior numbers with Finland’s trademark guerrilla tactics and use of terrain.

In the Continuation War, the division participated in the initial Finnish offensive to retake lost territory, advancing across the Karelian Isthmus through areas like Valkeasaari and Terijoki. Later, in 1944, it was stationed near Tali–Ihantala during the Soviet Vyborg–Petrozavodsk Offensive. In this pivotal battle—the largest in Nordic history—the 5th Division helped halt the Soviet advance, preserving Finland’s independence and allowing for the Moscow Armistice. The lynx emblem thus represents one of Finland’s most battle-hardened and strategically vital frontline units of the war.
