WW2 US M1 Helmet Shell – Front Seam, Swivel Bail, Schlueter Manufacture

This World War II-era US M1 helmet shell is a front-seam, swivel bail model, attributed to Schlueter Manufacturing Company based on its heat stamp, “18 S.” Schlueter helmets are identifiable by their slightly different shell shape compared to those manufactured by McCord Radiator.

The helmet retains its original rough-textured, olive drab exterior finish, showing signs of wear and age consistent with wartime use. One chin strap has been severed, and a modern twist tie is currently holding it in place, as seen in the provided photos.

Schlueter produced M1 helmet shells from 1943 to 1945 in limited quantities compared to McCord, making them more sought after by collectors. The front seam and swivel bail combination was introduced during mid-WW2, replacing earlier fixed bails prone to breakage.
