Description

This original WW1 Italian M1891 Mannlicher-Carcano bayonet was manufactured for use with the Carcano M91 rifle, the primary service weapon of the Italian military from the late 19th century through both World Wars. Featuring a full-length steel blade with a distinctive hooked quillon and wooden grip scales secured by two rivets, this bayonet is a fine example of Italian military craftsmanship from the early 20th century. The blade retains its original finish, showing patina and signs of age, while the grip remains solid with minor wear consistent with period use. The crossguard is stamped with the serial number 1G 8845, indicating its individual issue. The accompanying black leather scabbard with brass fittings is also period-correct and remains in well-preserved condition with visible stitching. The scabbard is marked A.G.L. 1916, identifying it as a product of A.G. Lichtenberger & Cie., a known manufacturer of edged weapons for the Italian military during World War I. Measuring approximately 16.5 inches in overall length with an 11.75-inch blade, this bayonet was designed for durability in close-quarters combat, particularly in trench warfare where hand-to-hand engagements were common. Issued to Italian infantry units, the M1891 bayonet played a crucial role in the battlefield tactics of the era. This piece is a highly desirable collectible for those interested in Italian militaria, WW1 edged weapons, and Carcano rifle accessories. It represents an important artifact of Italy’s military history, making it an excellent addition to any serious collection.
