Description
WW2 German NSDAP Enamel Party Badge – RZM M1/137, Richard Simm & Sohn, Gablonz an der Neiße

This is an original Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (NSDAP) membership badge, the standardized emblem worn by party members throughout the Third Reich. Struck in tombac and finished with red translucent enamel over a pebbled field, it features the black mobile swastika within a white central roundel, encircled by the party name in gilt lettering: NATIONAL-SOZIALISTISCHE D.A.P. The reverse is fitted with a horizontal pinback and is clearly stamped with the RZM maker code M1/137, identifying manufacture by Richard Simm & Sohn of Gablonz an der Neiße—one of the principal producers of political insignia during the period. The badge also bears the small circular RZM logo, denoting production under Reichszeugmeisterei regulations.

The NSDAP membership badge originated in the early 1920s during the party’s formative years in Munich, evolving from the larger, pre–Hitler Putsch style to the standardized 24 mm version introduced in the mid-1930s. By this time, all official political insignia were regulated by the RZM, the central authority that oversaw quality control, materials, and distribution for the entire Nazi Party and its affiliated organizations. Party membership badges were issued to individuals once their application had been approved and they had taken the party oath, and they were worn on civilian clothing to signify political affiliation and ideological commitment.

Gablonz, located in the Sudetenland, was a major center for fine metal and enamel work, and firms such as Richard Simm & Sohn were well known for producing high-quality insignia for both political and paramilitary organizations. After Germany’s annexation of the Sudetenland in 1938, Gablonz manufacturers became fully integrated into the RZM supply chain, contributing significantly to the production of badges, awards, and uniform fittings throughout WW2.

This example remains in excellent condition, with strong enamel and fully legible markings, representing not only a key piece of NSDAP political regalia but also an artifact of the centralized and highly controlled manufacturing system that characterized the German political and military apparatus before and during the Second World War.
