Description

This is a WW2 German Polizei Bayonet, manufactured by the esteemed Carl Julius Krebs of Solingen, a region renowned for its high-quality blade production. This particular bayonet is a striking example of the dress sidearms worn by members of German police forces during the Third Reich era, reflecting both the craftsmanship and historical significance of its time. It includes its original black-painted steel scabbard and leather frog, the latter clearly stamped with “gjg 1943,” identifying the manufacturer and year of production for the frog.

The bayonet’s blade features the distinctive Carl Julius Krebs logo, showcasing the crowned “K” and “Solingen” marking, which attests to its origin from one of Germany’s most prominent blade producers. The grip design is equally remarkable, featuring an intricately crafted eagle’s head pommel that adds a unique and authoritative aesthetic. Embedded within the grip is the Polizei insignia, a testament to its association with German law enforcement. The scabbard complements the piece with its sleek black finish, which, despite minor scuffs consistent with age and use, remains a robust and integral component of the set. The leather frog, marked “gjg 1943,” further enhances the historical authenticity, providing a complete ensemble that remains highly desirable among collectors.

The condition of this bayonet is consistent with its age and historical significance. The blade, while showing minor wear, retains clear and legible markings that underline its provenance. The grip is well-preserved, with the Polizei insignia firmly inset and the pommel exhibiting an even patina that speaks to its period use. The scabbard, though showing some wear, retains much of its original finish, and the accompanying frog remains intact and legible, adding to the overall historical value of the piece.

This bayonet serves not only as a collector’s item but also as a tangible connection to the history of German police forces during World War II. Its detailed craftsmanship, combined with its well-preserved condition, makes it an exceptional artifact for those interested in militaria and the rich history of the era.
