WW2 German Heer Panzer Beret Cloth BeVo Cockade and Wreath (Panzerbarett BeVo Kranzabzeichen)
This is an original WWII-era German Army (Heer) Panzer Beret wreath and cockade, machine woven in the BeVo style on a black rayon backing. The design features a national cockade centered in a wreath of oak leaves, rendered in silvery-gray thread with striking red and black highlights typical of Panzer uniform insignia. This specific pattern was used exclusively on the early-war black Panzer beret (Panzerbarett), a distinctive element of the elite Panzertruppen field uniform.
The Panzer beret itself was a unique and transitional piece of headgear, introduced in 1934 and used until approximately 1941. Its large, padded design was meant to protect tank crewmen from injury inside armored vehicles. The BeVo cockade and wreath were factory-applied to the front of the beret, and their finely woven quality reflected the early-war emphasis on sharp uniform presentation and detail. Unlike later embroidered or printed insignia, BeVo weave represented one of the highest-quality insignia manufacturing techniques used by the German military.
This example remains uncut from its original backing, never applied to a beret, making it a desirable piece for collectors focused on early-war Panzer insignia and German uniform evolution. As with all Panzer-related insignia, original examples are increasingly rare due to high postwar demand and limited production runs in the pre-1941 period.
