Title: WW2 German Soldier Memorial Card – Otto Eichner, 1942 Fallen Infantryman
Translation:
- Front of the card:
- “Prayer Remembrance for Otto Eichner from Asbach. Corporal in an Infantry Regiment. Died from severe wounds on March 20, 1942, at the age of 24. He found his final resting place in an honorary cemetery in the East.”
- Verse:
“In Russian soil, a lonely grave,
There they sent you into slumber.
Far you marched to battle in the field,
Now you fell in fire and died as a hero.
You gave your all, your life and blood,
For your Fatherland with manly courage.
You sacrificed your youth and future,
And you will never return to your homeland.
In the bloom of your years, your life was taken,
The cruel war demanded it.
But bitter pain fades with time,
You, however, rest in eternal peace!” - Back of the card:
“Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, burning with love for us,
Ignite our hearts with love for You!
(100 Days of Indulgence, once daily)”
