This relic was found in the southwestern Sahara (northern Mauritania/Mali/Niger). Neolithic populations living near now dried lakes and rivers in what is now the Sahara Desert; used these tools in the hunt for and processing of waterfowl and small game. The Neolithic period in the Sahara can be roughly divided in 2 periods: the Archaic period, from about 8,000 to about 5,000 Bc; and the second, Bovidian period, from circa 5,000 to 3,000 BC.
