This particular example was overpainted in semi-gloss black, a finish commonly applied for civil defense use, such as Luftschutz or TeNo, rather than frontline military service. On the right side of the shell, the original Dutch tricolor shield insignia remains visible, featuring horizontal bands of red, white, and blue. This national emblem is evidence that the helmet was likely reissued with minimal modification and may have been used by collaborationist units or local administrative personnel working under German authority. On the left side, remnants of a removed decal can be seen beneath the overpaint, likely where a German insignia such as a TeNo or Luftschutz decal was once applied.
