This is a beautifully preserved original 1915 Japanese Taishō Enthronement Commemorative Medal, housed in its original purple presentation case. Issued to commemorate the enthronement of Emperor Taishō (Yoshihito), this medal was awarded to select military personnel, government officials, and distinguished guests who participated in or contributed to the imperial ceremonies.

The medal features a chrysanthemum crest—the symbol of the Japanese Imperial House—above crossed ancient ritual scepters (shaku) and is suspended from a white silk ribbon with red stripes. The reverse bears the inscription marking the enthronement and the date of the ceremony in traditional Japanese script: Taishō 4th Year, 11th Month (November 1915), when the formal enthronement rites were conducted at the Imperial Palace in Kyoto.

The Taishō period (1912–1926) marked Japan’s continued emergence as a modern imperial power. Although Emperor Taishō’s reign was brief and overshadowed by illness, the period saw significant political change and the expansion of parliamentary government. This medal is not merely a decorative object—it is a relic of a pivotal transition within Japan’s imperial narrative, bridging the Meiji modernization era and the militaristic Shōwa period to come.
