The accompanying 7-rivet frog scabbard, an earlier and rarer variant, was designed to hold and protect the bayonet when not in use. The scabbard’s leather construction, reinforced with seven rivets, was made to withstand the rigors of field use and the harsh conditions of wartime campaigns. Over time, scabbards with fewer rivets became standard, making this version a sought-after collector’s piece.

This bayonet and scabbard set would have been carried by Union infantry soldiers throughout significant engagements, from the Battle of Bull Run to Gettysburg and beyond.
