WW2 Era Soviet Medal Bar – Medal for Combat Service (Numbered), Defense of Leningrad, Victory over Germany & 30 Years of the Soviet Army and Navy

This original WW2-era Soviet four-place medal bar features a hard-earned grouping of campaign and service awards, all mounted on a wartime period steel pin-back bar with original ribbons. The highlight of the set is the Medal “For Combat Service” (serial number 1419987), which was awarded to personnel who demonstrated exceptional bravery, initiative, and combat merit in battle or during military operations. Instituted on October 17, 1938, this was one of the Soviet Union’s earliest and most respected awards for valor short of the Order of the Red Banner.

Next in the bar is the Medal “For the Defense of Leningrad,” awarded to Soviet soldiers and civilians who took part in the defense of the city during the brutal 872-day siege by German forces from September 1941 to January 1944. It remains a potent symbol of endurance, resistance, and sacrifice on the Eastern Front.

The third medal is the ubiquitous “For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945” featuring the profile of Marshal Stalin. Issued to millions of Red Army veterans, it recognized their contribution to the final defeat of Nazi Germany. Despite its commonality, this medal carries significant historical weight, symbolizing Soviet triumph and the immense human cost of the war.

The final decoration is the “Thirty Years of the Soviet Army and Navy” anniversary medal, instituted in 1948 to commemorate three decades of the Soviet military. It features the busts of Lenin and Stalin, making it a Cold War-era award deeply reflective of the political climate of its time.

This well-preserved medal bar retains excellent original ribbons, showing only light wear from age and display. The reverse of the bar is complete with its functional steel mounting pin and catch, typical of late-WW2 and early postwar construction.
